Anime Mondays #33

I feel like another addition to my “Dumb Things Boys Do at the Bar” series should be forthcoming, kids, as I went to the bar this weekend, and wow, they did a plethora of dumb things.  On the same token, so did some of the girls.  But that is for another time and place.  This place is about anime.  Are you ready?  Here we go.

All images are from MAL, and there are spoilers up to the episodes listed below!

Blood Lad – Episode 2 Blood Lad Cover

After giving this show a rest for a little while, I decided to give it another shot, just to see if I could at least stay awake through the second episode.  It took a couple months, but I finally plowed through it and was immediately disappointed.  What I thought could have been an entertaining vampire comedy turned into something that was not at all like my precious Soul Eater, and more just like a bunch of nothing.  So the vampire takes the human girl turned ghost back to the human world to see if he can fix her and then just ends up being a vampire tourist, geeking out over trains and manga.  Seriously?  I started it, so OCD insists I finish Blood Lad, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to like it or complete it anytime soon.  It’s sad when I just don’t care anymore.

Interstella 555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (Completed!) Interstella 5555 Cover

I am a HUGE Daft Punk fan and I didn’t even know this existed until I saw a Glass Reflection review of it.  I knew that the video for “One More Time” was anime and was completely enamored by it the first time I saw it, but I just had no clue they turned the entire album into a movie.  Discovery was the first album I purchased just by hearing it being played in a store.  I remember being in Virgin Megastore (RIP) in Chicago, hearing “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” and immediately asking the first employee I could find what this was and purchasing the CD.  It’s one of those albums where absolutely every song is amazing, and I played the hell out of it even though none of my friends were interested at all.  The movie has no dialogue and is completely scored by the album and a few sound effects.  I know.  It’s got this Fantasia-esque concept, but in a long form, and it feels like the best music video ever made.  Take that, Michael Jackson.  Basically, this band from another planet gets kidnapped by this dude from earth, gets brainwashed, and gets forced to become a band from Earth.  Meanwhile, an alien dude who is in love with the girl in the band tries to save them…it’s really good.  My enjoyment of this movie is kind of biased, seeing as I love Daft Punk and wanted to work in music videos for the longest time until they became less about the art form and more about how many girls in bikinis they could show spraying champagne on some rapper, but I digress.  It’s not going to be everyone’s thing, just like a lot of people really don’t like Daft Punk, but I loved it.  I actually rated this 10/10 on MAL because it’s the only thing I’ve ever seen of its kind, and I had fun with every second of it.  It’s on DVD, but rumors have it going out of print soon, so if you can pick it up, I’d do it.  I got my copy for under $15 on amazon.

Dangan Ronpa: The Animation – Episode 12 Danganronpa Cover

OH MY GOD THIS EPISODE.  Like…I’m so happy my theory was proven wrong.  So, so happy.  Well…I guess there is a slight chance it could be right, but just the fact at who the “mastermind” really is…SO EXCITED.  I mean, come on, we’re in the spoiler zone, right?  My cosplay of choice :).  There is only one left, and I’ll be sad to see this end.  Does the game have a sequel?  I don’t know how it could, but if it does, I hope this gets another season.  I have thoroughly enjoyed this show, and it has succeeded in keeping me on my toes, which I can’t say about a lot of anime.  Wins all around.

Watamote – Episode 11 Watamote Cover

Can I just tell you that after all the crap I gave this show when I marathoned what I had left to watch…and then this episode came…it made me want to take back some of the crap I gave the series.  See, Tomoko can act like a normal person when she has a friend.  Even though sometimes she gets a little crush on her friend Yuu, she can act like a human being when they’re out together.  And then with the Culture Festival Chair dressing up like a bear and giving her a balloon and a hug…I almost lost it.  Seriously.  I was legitly trying not to cry.  I want Tomoko to have a school friend so badly, and if she doesn’t fuck this up, she just might have one.  Please let the final episodes of this series not turn her into a monster again where I’m cringing through every episode.  It’s amazing what friends can do for a person, and the change in Tomoko is just astounding.

Day Break Illusion – Episodes 1-9 Day Break Illusion Cover

I’m so late to this summer season party where I’m starting all these shows in September, but this one just might be worth it.  I watched a review of the first episode that said this was supposed to be like the red-headed stepchild of Madoka Magica, and you guys know how much I love my Madoka, so I had to watch it.  Needless to say, I’ll probably finish the rest of it that’s out before the day is up.  And while this anime does have some parallels to Madoka, it is by no means up to the caliber of that show.  Day Break Illusion is about a girl named Akari who inherited fortune telling abilities from her dead mother, along with, apparently, the ability to turn into a tarot card-based magical girl who fights tarot card-based magical demons.  Her card is the sun card, which means she can make plants grow.  Anyway, the Madoka comparisons begin because unlike children’s magical girl shows, this one has people dying right off the bat.  It has the magical girls doing the killing.  Plus, they don’t skimp on the blood here.  When shit happens, there’s red splatters all over the place.  The animation quality for this show is pretty sub-par, as most of the characters look like “more anime” style versions of characters from Panty and Stocking, and the writing…well, it’s not that great.  I mean, the girl who has the moon card’s name is Luna and her sister’s name is Serena.  Come on, now.  The characters, so far, have gotten very little time to establish detailed backstories, other than one girl’s mother died, one used to be poor, one lost her best friend to one of the demons they’re fighting, and one has a twin sister.  Something that I found quite engaging about this series, though, is that the girls’ parents and family members actually know they are magical girls.  They don’t have to hide it from anyone, and it’s refreshing to see them discussing the trials and tribulations of their duties with their elders, who have gone through it or know someone who has, as their abilities are hereditary.  In fact, one of my favorite scenes was when the one girl’s father came to visit his daughter at her “magical girl school,” and they could sit and talk about how she was making all this money from her battles that could help out the family.  Day Break Illusion definitely has peaked my interest, but if you’re looking for a quality show, this is not it.  It’s like when Shadowstar Narutaru came with all those weirdo plot twists, but had the shittiest animation known to man.  Okay…it’s not THAT bad, but that’s the best comparison I can make right now.  It’s no Madoka Magica or Lyrical Nanoha (another show I really enjoyed), but it’s good for what it is, and I can’t wait to see how they are going to wrap everything up, especially after episodes 8-9 when shit literally hits the fan.

GetBackers – Episodes 41-45 GetBackers Cover

You guys, I AM ALMOST DONE WITH THIS SERIES!  In fact, I have the final disc in my possession, but no telling how long it will actually take me to watch it…because the last arc is another Makubex arc.  WHY, GETBACKERS, WHY???  The first one went on for so long, and the series is going to end on one.  I guess I’m ready for it to be over now, though.  An almost 50 episode series, and the best episodes were the standalone comedic ones.  So sad.

Naruto – Episode 4 Naruto cover

Slowly making my way through this series…I watch this before I go to bed, and it literally took me until late Saturday night to make it through just this one episode because I kept falling asleep through it.  So Naruto and his new gang have to grab a bell from their teacher or they don’t get to eat lunch.  Somehow, I think there are more prevalent problems in their world or some better training they could receive, but episode 5 promises to explain why this is so important….too bad I keep falling asleep through that one, too.

Best of the Week: Interstella 5555, Dangan Ronpa, Day Break Illusion, Watamote

Love it or Leave it: Blood Lad

Hope it Gets Better: GetBackers, Naruto

Just a heads up now; October is going to be an extremely busy month for me, so I may or may not get Anime Mondays posts out.  I’ll be sure to put up my guest passes, though, and there will be different, non-anime content as I get ready to go out on my Disney vacation.  Please feel free to keep up with me on MAL (dangeresque), Hummingbird and Crunchyroll (magica), and Twitter (glitterbotstoo) for the latest ramblings.  See you next week!

Anime Mondays #32

Hello ladies and gents, I come to you this week sick as hell.  The weather changed here so freaking quickly that my head feels like a bunch of horses are trampling through it every single second.  Today’s post might be slightly less witty, but at least it exists.

All images are from MAL, and there are spoilers up to the episodes listed below!

Magic Knight Rayearth – Episodes 7-10 Magic Knight Rayearth Cover

Ah, a rewatch.  I love it when I love a show so much I have to not only watch it twice, but to purchase it, as well.  Although, truth be told, if I didn’t buy this show, there would be something wrong with me.  This was one of the shows I’d use to glue pictures from on my folders for school, even though I’d never seen it.  I listened to the theme song so much that I could sing the Japanese from memory when I’d never seen an episode.  And then, when I saw the whole series, I fell in love and wasn’t disappointed with the hype…well…sort of.  But when I get to the end, I’ll discuss it there.  MKR is a magical girl show from the 90’s made by Clamp, so you know it’s going to be gorgeous.  Hikaru, Umi and Fuu are three strangers thrown together into the magical world of Cephiro, and that’s where the fun begins.  Umi has always been my favorite…probably because I had hair like hers until I was a senior in high school…just not blue.  The episodes I got through this week were definitely some great ones: Fuu’s crush, Hikaru’s love for her dog, Umi’s strength and love for her new friends…ugh.  Seriously, if you haven’t seen this show, just do yourself a favor and get on that shit right now.  It’s remastered from Media Blasters.

The Future Diary – Episodes 11-16 Future Diary Cover

How excited was I when Funimation magically listened to my plea and put the whole dubbed series up for streaming???  Marry me Justin Rojas.  I don’t really care for the new opening and ending as much as the first ones, but the series has not stopped being fucked up yet.  Thankfully, Yuki and his friends got out of Yuno’s death trap alive, but now there’s another power couple and all this talk about Yuki using Yuno and feeding her lines about how much he loves her just to stay alive…I mean, I know the girl is batshit crazy and clearly desperate, but come the fuck on.  Why can’t he get along with just his own diary?  It tells him everything, and the only thing Yuno is is a crazy bitch enforcer.  Yuki had some balls for one episode, and now it’s back to being a little bitch again.  I still love this show, though.  Just because one character is a pussy doesn’t mean I’m ready to forsake it yet.

Naruto – Episodes 2-3 Naruto cover

See how I am slowly making progress on this show?  A few episodes every four months.  At this pace, I’ll have it finished before I croak.  So…why do people like this show again?  I mean, I was getting kind of into it until one episode evolved into a bunch of shots of Naruto going to the bathroom and I was like, well now I have found the epitome of toilet humor.  Literally.  It’s just not good.  Does it get better?  Please, someone tell me it gets better…the first box set has 25 episodes in it.  I don’t know if I can take much more without forcing myself.

Attack on Titan – Episodes 22-23 Attack on Titan Cover

I have absolutely nothing to say except that I called it.  And I have written, blog proof.  I’m pretty much over this show now that I know nothing is going to get resolved before it’s over and I’m either forced to wait for another season or read the manga, both of which I hate doing.

Watamote – Episodes 5-10 Watamote Cover

I caught up with not only one, but two shows that are currently airing!  Wow, I am clearly just awesome.  Yet, I could not tell you why I chose to catch up on this one.  Watamote has finally crossed into the territory where it literally hurts my chest to watch it.  This girl has so many opportunities to make friends, and she just throws them all away.  It legitly HURTS me.  I’ll finish it off, but very reluctantly.  I hope to hell there’s not another season of this just because cringing for 22 minutes an episode hurts my life to no end.

Pastel Yumi – Episode 1 Pastel Yumi Cover

Right now, this show is up for crowd funding at Anime Sols.  I’ve already plunked down the money to get Creamy Mami its first box set, and I wanted to check this out to see if I like it enough to get my name in the DVD credits.  The short answer is: yes.  Pastel Yumi is another magical girl show (shocker) where our heroine gets a magic paintbrush, and everything she draws turns to life.  It’s pretty awesome.  She draws a horse and gets a Pegasus.  She draws a dress full of flowers to help her dad win a prize at a festival.  I’m not expecting this to turn dark like Sailor Moon or anything, but I love stupid, light hearted anime like this one.  When I get paid, anime sols is getting some cash from me.

Danganronpa: The Animation – Episode 11 Danganronpa Cover

Something’s not right with this show now.  Kirigiri is some genius detective?  It seems to me like Naegi has been solving all the cases so far.  And then bitch frames him???  I don’t know.  I wasn’t really into this episode, but I’m sticking by my theory that everybody else is still alive.  They have two more shows to prove me right.  I know a lot of people give this show crap, but I like it.  I need some more anime friends so we can all cosplay as this group and take a real life class picture like in the end credits.  I call the fashionista girl.

Best of the Week: The Future Diary, Magic Knight Rayearth, Pastel Yumi

Love it or Leave it: Danganronpa, Attack on Titan

Hope it Gets Better: Watamote, Naruto

Totally going to go take some Advil and a nap right now.  See you next week!

Anime Mondays #31

I believe this was a week of fucked up shows.  Now, you guys know how much I love my fucked up anime.  I mean, hello, three of my favorite shows of all time belong to the genre I like to refer to merely as “psychological fucked up shows.”  (For those of you wondering, these shows are Revolutionary Girl Utena, Madoka Magica, and Mawaru Penguindrum.)  But, I think I took the cake this week for the shows I chose to watch, and I didn’t even re-watch any of my favorites.  And I have now learned that sometimes “fucked up” is not as great as I’d like it to be.

All images are from MAL, and there are spoilers below up to the episodes listed!

The Wallflower – Episodes 14-16 The Wallflower Cover

So, I was in the mood to watch something light where I wouldn’t have to think too much, and I pulled out this gem of a reverse harem show.  It’s kind of sexist in a way — a group of hot guys have to teach this girl obsessed with horror movies and death to be a proper lady or their landlady will put them in the poor house — but at the same time, it’s pretty hysterical.  Plus, the girl who needs to be trained reminds me of myself.  Goddamn it, you can be goth and girly at the same time, though, hello, just look at some of the side characters, including the goth-loli trio who annoy the hell out of everyone.  True to form, however, I can’t remember a damn thing about the episodes I actually watched because I was doing something else at the time.  This show is funny as a whole, however, so I’m not dismissing it; it’s just taking a really long time for me to finish, seeing as I started it over a year ago.

Pokemon – Episodes 10-13 Pokemon Cover

I wrote on twitter the other day that all I want out of life is a boyfriend who’ll watch Pokemon with me and not rip on me.  It’s okay if he rips on the show…just not me.  I mean, is this possible?  We can watch other stuff, too.  I’ll sit through Star Trek, or something…shit.  I like to watch this when I want to turn my brain off and don’t need to focus on things like plot or characters for too long…plus it’s cute.  I like cute things.  So sue me.  One of my goals in life is to watch every Pokemon episode ever made, but seeing as I have the first three seasons and I’ve only watched 13 episodes in the course of about six months…I guess I’m not doing too well.  I actually remembered one of these episodes from when I was a kid, the one where the gang goes to that weird scientist’s house who is trapped in some kind of extinct pokemon shell…let’s just say this anime does not age well, even with the nostalgia factor.

Attack on Titan – Episode 21 Attack on Titan Cover

Um….the few words I have to say about this episode can pretty much be summed up with the following: what in the actual fuck just happened???  Really?  REALLY?  After last week when I said I didn’t want anyone else to die…and what did they do?  PRACTICALLY EVERYBODY DIES.  I can’t handle Eren getting eaten one more freaking time.  Leave this poor dude alone.  I can’t take Misaki breaking the hell down because she watched the love of her life get chomped on by that bitchy blonde titan.  I just…ugh.  What are they going to do to wrap this up?  I’m so into this show, and it hurts.  I want to marathon it, but I can’t wait that long.  What are you doing to me, Attack on Titan?  Just sit down for a second, and stop being so awesome.

Watamote – Episode 4 Watamote Cover

For some reason, I forgot where I was in this show, and since MAL was down, I accidentally rewatched episode 3…but I got 4 in there, so I guess it wasn’t a total wash.  I now understand what people were saying at the beginning of this series about the cringe factor.  It’s becoming really difficult to watch.  Like, I just want to see this girl make a friend so badly, and she’s so awkward that she just…can’t.  I feel bad for the one friend she has because she’s put in these awkward situations like being forced to go with to buy underwear.  Just…man.  Someone throw this girl a bone.

Another – Episodes 9-12 and Flash Video (Completed!) Another Cover

Here’s where the fucked up shows begin.  I really wanted to like this.  I really did.  And if it were for the fucked up factor alone, I would have.  But, I tried to get a plot out of this.  I tried to figure out some motivation for the characters’ actions.  Hell, I tried to remember the names of the characters…and I’ve got nothing.  The last time I watched this, I made a mental note that I would have to re-watch it just because I had no idea what was going on.  However, I watched it all the way through to the end and actually paid attention.  They explained the entire backstory and the plot.  I still couldn’t get it.  The last few episodes just became this ridiculous, giant bloodbath, and while that’s all well and good in slasher films that don’t even claim to have a plot, I just found the whole thing lacking here.  If this show had not tried to be some kind of psychological mystery horror show, and instead was just some kind of hack and slash anime, I could have gotten behind it more.  Watch the death scenes on youtube, if that’s your thing.  Don’t bother with the rest of this show, as it doesn’t bother with the viewer…so why should you put out the effort to care?  Also, the little bonus episode was pointless.  Don’t even bother watching it if you bought the DVD set.  I ranked this 7/10 on MAL for the fucked up death scenes…now that I think about it, I should have gone down another point, but the dub was good, so I’ll stick by this ranking.

Haganai – Episodes 8-9 Haganai Cover

Unfortunately, this show is turning into what I hoped it wouldn’t: a gigantic fanservice mess.  I did actually laugh out loud at one point, but that was completely the blonde girl’s fault.  I think she said something like, “What a shitty game!” and I just lost it.  But the fake dating sims are becoming the best part about this series…and that’s pretty sad.  Come on, Haganai, get better.  This is why you don’t have many friends.

Danganronpa: The Animation – Episode 10 Danganronpa Cover

Really?  This is a reality show?  I mean…I should have seen it coming.  That makes pretty much all the plot twists plausible.  But I don’t like it.  It feels like a cop out to me to say, well, this whole high school is just a television show.  However, it does give some credibility to my hypothesis that everyone is still alive after they “die.”  And did you see the ending credits?  All the characters were in the shot now.  It didn’t matter if they were dead or alive, they were in that shot.  I hope it wasn’t just a mistake or the animators being lazy…I hope that means I’m right.  There won’t be any more deaths, but the plot is going to wrap up in the next few episodes…I just want to know what’s actually happening already.

The Future Diary – Episodes 2-10 Future Diary Cover

Here we go, guys, this is the fucked up show I’m currently obsessed with.  My limited edition boxed set shipped early, so I pretty much marathoned most of part one on Saturday.  But, first, can I just say, the limited edition bonus item…valentines?  Seriously?  I couldn’t get a keychain or something?  Or maybe a box where the corner wasn’t all fucked up?  Anyway, this show is gold.  It’s so messed up.  Yuki is not as worthless as I pegged him to be in the first episode, and Yuno…holy crap.  This girl is psychotic.  I pretty much love her.  She loves Yuki so much that she literally kills for him.  And he’s so disgusted by it, but he feels like he has to use her to stay alive, but then maybe, just maybe, he has some kind of feelings for her…man.  You know how I liked Sword Art Online because of the romance?  Well, this is pretty much the antithesis of that, but it’s really freaking epic.  Also, the dub is awesome.  I love Ian Sinclair.  He plays a weird character called The 12th, and I heard him speak and was like, “Excalibur from Soul Eater!  He’s going to California!”  It was so great.  The girl who plays The 4th, she was also Ringo from Penguindrum, so clearly, she’s a pro at playing these fucked up characters.  I love, love, love this show.  I just am really broke and can’t afford to buy part two right now, so I’m hoping it’s up on the Funimation Channel by the time I finish with the set.  Come on, guys, throw me a bone here, I stood by you through all that Roku downtime…

Best of the Week:

Love it or Leave it: Watamote, Pokemon, The Wallflower

Hope it Gets Better: Haganai, Another

I forgot to mention this at the beginning, but this post has a prize inside!  Please enjoy this crunchyroll guest pass on me:

See you next week!

Anime Mondays #30

Man, it’s been a couple of busy weeks.  Luckily, it was productively busy.  All my Disney Fast Pass+ stuff is now booked (yes, we got in the trial…baller status), my Halloween costumes have been purchased and accessorized, and I spent an awesome day at the Ren Faire yesterday yelling at people in a British accent.  AND I CAUGHT UP ON SOME ANIME.  Let’s rock.

All images are from MAL, and there are spoilers up to the episodes listed!

Full Moon wo Sagashite – Episodes 1-8 Full Moon cover

I started to watch this anime on Hulu a long time ago, but when the DVDs came from Netflix, I had to start at the beginning.  Thankfully, I had the good sense to do this because I couldn’t remember anything I had seen however many months ago.  The plot for this show is semi-morbid: a girl is dying and her last wish is to be a famous singer, so some shinigami come and grant it for her.  I usually love these idol shows, but something about this one is throwing me off.  Sure, it’s cute, but I can’t stop the feeling of overwhelming dread I get whenever the main character gets reminded that, hey, she’s going to die really, really soon.  So it’s like…bittersweet with a side of heart-warming.  However, the female shinigami is such a bitch sometimes that I just want to punch her in the face.  I hope there’s a twist at the end, like the main character doesn’t die, but I’m not holding my breath.

Haganai – Episodes 6-7 Haganai Cover

Yay, my pre-order came in!  The artbox for Haganai is pretty cute, but I wish it came with some kind of extra other than the box.  The dub has consistently gotten better from episode to episode, but I’m developing a real dislike for Jerry Jewell.  Did I say that before?  He just seems so one note to me.  Please don’t get me wrong; I’d much rather have Jerry as a male lead in a show than another show with Todd Haberkorn in it, but sometimes the voice is just so…flat.  Also, I’m beginning to really dislike all the supporting characters in this show besides the main three.  The creepy sister, and the tiny nun and the extremely inappropriate scientist girl…pass.  Despite all its faults, I still like this show.  Clearly, my taste is warped.

Dragon Ball – Episodes 46-48 Dragon Ball Cover

So I started watching this renting it off Netflix…but Amazon had a great deal for the blue packaged season sets so I bought them all…and promptly decided I didn’t want to watch them.  Dragon Ball really succeeds in its tournament fighting, but fails in everything else.  I feel like I should watch this just because I’m a fan of the genre, but I never really got into Dragon Ball Z…anyway.  It was a Saturday morning, and I wanted to watch something I didn’t really have to pay attention to.  When I’m bored enough, I’ll pick this back up.

K-On!! – Episodes 8-13 K-on!! Cover

I think the world is ending; I’m actually enjoying K-On!!.  It only took me 20+ episodes in the franchise to like it, which I consider to be a problem, but I’ve finally gotten there.  I think it’s because more episodes centered around music in this last bunch that I watched.  The episode with Sawa-chan’s band…CLASSIC.  I loved it.  Mio freaking out over going to her first summer festival, that was adorable, too.  I love it when characters are passionate about something I’m also passionate about, and since I don’t have magical powers or a talking cat, music is pretty much at the top of that list.  I get it now.  I feel so much better about watching this through to the end.

Persona 4: The Animation – Episodes 1-3 Persona 4 Cover

I had never even heard of this show until I watched a few videos by The NSCL (good editing AND hysterical…who even knew that was possible? his stuff is fantastic), so I felt compelled to check it out.  And I’m really glad I did, so far.  The dub cast is awesome, which makes it really easy to watch…although the first disc only had three episodes on it.  What the shit, Sentai?  Anyway, Persona 4 is about this group of people who can literally jump into television screens and get into this alternate universe.  It’s kind of complicated to explain…but I’m digging it.  I just hope my rental service sends me another disc sooner rather than later.

Danganronpa: The Animation – Episodes 8-9 Danganronpa Cover

You know…I honestly thought that the killer in this arc was going to be my last remaining favorite character, and I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn’t.  However, I don’t know if I can get behind the way this is playing out.  Like, all of a sudden, there’s another kid in the school now?  I call bullshit.  I do have a theory about the overall plot/concept.  You ready?  I don’t think the dead kids are actually dead.  I think they’re still alive somewhere.  And I also think that they’re all drugged with some amnesia-inducing thing and they all knew each other before they got dragged to the school.  Like, those pictures weren’t faked…or they were taken once the “dead” kids got out of the school.  You know…cause I don’t think they’re dead.  We’ll see if this pans out.

The World God Only Knows Season 2 – Episodes 1-3 The World God Only Knows Season 2 Cover

I don’t know why I bought this.  Remember how I wrote that whole review and couldn’t decide if I liked this show or not?  It’s pretty clear going into season 2 that I don’t.  The first girl was kind of cute, but the new devil/witchy/whatever girl?  I’m not digging her.  I just want this dude to have a real relationship with ONE person.  It’s not going to happen.  I’m just setting myself up for disappointment.  I can only blame myself for this one, kids.

Attack on Titan – Episodes 17-20 Attack on Titan Cover

How are they going to finish this in five episodes?  The pace is so maddeningly slow compared to the first half of the series, that I have no idea how they are going to come to some sort of conclusion that gives the answers we’ve been waiting for for months.  Okay, so now there’s a female Titan, and even though they haven’t said who it is in the show yet, it’s painfully obvious…thanks to the opening.  We’ll see if I’m proved wrong, but just watch it and look for the characters who are featured.  One of these things is not like the others, my friends.  I want to know how all these human titans are popping up.  I want to know why the fuck they are wasting time going outside the walls and not going into Eren’s basement where they need to be.  And I want to know why people want to destroy themselves…because if they are destroying humanity, that’s what’s going to happen.  Mostly, though, I don’t want anyone else to die.  That’s a pipe dream.

Sankarea – Episodes 1-2 Sankarea Cover

Being a Funimation Elite member has its perks: one of them is getting to watch the first two episodes of this anime dubbed before it’s released in October.  Honestly, I just wish there were more ready to go because of one name: Aaron Dismuke.  Take note, Funimation: hire this kid for everything.  Even if he were in every show like Todd Haberkorn, I’d never get sick of him.  I randomly saw this was up and watched it, even though I wasn’t too fond of the concept, but I wanted to finish it immediately because the dub was so great.  Basically, this kid is in love with zombies and wants to re-animate his cat.  A girl with a completely fucked up home life joins him in this quest, but when it doesn’t work decides to kill herself instead of being reborn and turned into a zombie…yeah, it’s weird.  Good weird, but still weird.  I can’t wait to watch more of this…dubbed.

Best of the Week: Persona 4, K-On!!, Danganronpa, Sankarea

Love it or Leave it: Attack on Titan, Full Moon, Haganai

Hope it Gets Better: Dragon Ball, The World God Only Knows Season 2

I’ll be back to weekly next Monday, I promise.  I know these double posts are a lot to get through.  See you next week!
